Another Successful Cup

Well, another Cup has been run and won with the evergreen Pinnacles trained by Rick Hore-Lacy winning the feature race

With the sun shining down, a magnificient spring day was had with what can only be described as 1st class racing.  The Cup had a bit more drama than we usually like, with last years winner Eraset scratched at the barriers after dislodging his jockey and doing a lap of the track on his own.  No doubt Danny O’Brien would be disappointed as Eraset was touted to make it Back-to-Back cups.  Top weight Pinnacles was considered one of the “class” horses of the field and this panned out so with a magnifient ride by Steven Arnold ensuring the horse had a dream run.  Trainer Rick Hore-Lacy will now set the horse the mighty task of competing in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes race on the last day of the Flemington Spring Carnival, we wish them all the best and again hope that Sale form proves to be a fantastic guide.

One of the stories of the day was the Joan Pracey trained Upstacker who duly won the $100,000 Turbull Toyota Inglis Race.  Making the long journey from their home track of Hawksbury, Upstacker arrived on the Wednesday prior to Cup day and was hosted on track by local trainers Cliff & Michelle Murray.  Thankfully we then had some cooler days which enabled Upstacker to recover from the journey.  Reports that made this office on Thursday morning after morning track work was that Upstacker was a bit green with the Victorian way of going, luckily he is a very fast learner and on the day railed the Victorian way of going like a greyhound to win the race and a very popular win it was, with Joan accorded all the congratulations usually reserved for a local.  Joan is now headed back north, no doubt with plans to return next year – possibly with a runner in the Sale Cup this time.

A very well behaved and very well dressed crowd of over 5,000 was in attendance, with police happy with the behaviour and atmosphere of the event.  Fashions on the Field again proved to be popular with over 60 ladies entering.  We hope that all those that attended had a “Great Day Out” and we look forward to seeing everyone at ‘Greenwattle Racecourse – Sale” in the near future.
